Day 3

Woke up in the night feeling hot and sweaty. By morning one or two pale red spots on face, and a watery boil on arm. Decided to go and see my GP. He immediately confirmed chicken pox. He told me to just ride it through since he couldn't prescribe anything for it. He suggested baths with bicarbonate soda added, paracetamol four times a day, Calamine lotion to rub on the pox and an anti-histamine to reduce the itchiness. [Remember, you must seek your own medical advice!].

By afternoon many more red marks and water boils appearing all over scalp, face, neck, arms, chest and back. Took a bath in warm water with two table spoons bicarbonate soda added. Didn't seem to do too much. Continued with paracetamol, last one was at 16h00.

Went to bed at 11h00 not feeling to bad except for obvious itching (have not taken the anti-histamine yet). Couldn't sleep, was just getting comfortable.

Wow, I'm amazed with how quickly you figured it out.... I guess this was just Day 3 for me. I went to the doc, who confirmed the diagnosis as well. I have an arsenal of products culled from the on call doc I called on Day 2 and web browsing. To-day I started on Acyclovir, I'm using hydrocortisone for body itching, and for sleeping, i've added an indonesian tiger balm (it's 50% peppermint oil+ menthol) at the edges of my face and on my scalp. tried a bath with oatmeal (in a sock) and baking soda.... hmm, it was distracting so helped. not sure about any other effect though..

another comment: to-day i really feel very very ugly. it's not a girl thing. my face is so distorted. and a couple of the early blisters are now empty so they have scarred over with a large dark mark. glad to be working from home (part time in case i need to take breaks). have had to go out to go to the doc and buy groceries/pharmacy. very weird. my scalp really hurts, the bumps are huge. but still no real fever

I'm home with chickenpox right now on maybe day 5. I'm 47 years old. From your description I think my case is a lot milder than yours was.

High fever the first 3 days then one spot on my eyebrow and another on my chest. My son had chickenpox about a month ago so the thought crossed my mind, but dismissed it and went to bed.

Woke up with a nice crop of spots on my chest and a few more on my face. Saw the doctor immediately and got famcyclovir prescribed - 250mg 3 times a day, though some reading suggest maybe 500 mg would be better ... but anyway I'm not too itchy.

Further reading suggests bathing is a big mistake. Got lucky - was going to have a bath but couldn't summon the will to get out of bed. Then read about it and now I'm ... well, okay, I feel like I look like the elephant man, but realistically it's a lot better than some pictures I've seen online.

So anyway I think your doctor was incompetent in not prescribing antivirals and in not advising you to avoid bathing.

Today I have red spots ALL over my torso, neck and scalp. About 1/4 have blistered. I have a crusty one in my ear and one on my gum. The blisters are hideous and getting very itchy now. Not much of a fever now but still feeling rubbish.

Chickenpox at age 35... started feeling a headache and the same night ran a fever, noticed a few blisters on my chest and arms, following morning went to urgent care and confirmed it was chickenpox and prescribed acyclovir 800mg. The fever and headache went away quickly but the spots continued to come and day two the itchy sensation was insane!I used calamine lotion and after an hour my itchiness was 100x's worst. Read a few blogs of adult chickenpox, where the writer said the same on the calamine lotion and when it drys it makes the itchy sensation worst. The worst area of pox is my back and head/face. My legs have spots but nothing crazy. My family practice Dr called (37 yrs experience) said starting the acyclovir early is the best way to lesson the severity. I'm currently at the night of day two and I'm feeling fine, just the annoying sensation of wanting to itch.

Day 231

Most of the brown scars have not pretty much vanished. Once or two very faint ones left. Quite a few little craters but can't really see them on the face. One larger crater on cheek but thats ok, got used to it now. Have stopped applying the Mederma and Bio-Oil everyday. Just put them on now and then. Few brown scars on body particularly around the waist, they will remain.

Day 22

Well, over the course of the last few weeks since I last posted all the scabs on my body have fallen off. No marks left from the ones from the body just faint pink ones for some spots. However, when the scabs fell of face, they were pink first now gone brown, so have all these brown blemishes over face. Dr says they should fade but will take a very long time! He said immediate solution could be laser treatment, but will wait and see. Shaved the beard off few days ago which is great but reveals more brown spots so growing stubble back. Been rubbing BioOil at night, and Dr suggested I use Mederma few times a day [Please seek your own medical advice]. One lymph node still a little swollen, Dr said it will probably stay like that but to keep an eye on it. Still had a few scabs on scalp, almost all gone.

Day 123

The scars are slowly fading, some have disappeared. One or two actually look permanent. Most of my scars that remained were on my face. The ones on my body have pretty much gone. I have one or two craters on my face, the scar colouring has gone from them, guess they are permanent too. Still keeping to my regime of Mederma cream during the day and BioOil before bed (Please seek your own medical advice). Most people I bump into these days say I look a lot better than I did earlier this year so thats good.
